Expertise: Chinese and East Asian history, China–Hong Kong relations, U.S.-China relations The holder of a Ph.D. in East Asian history from Stanford University, Ming Chan is the coordinator of the Hong Kong Documentary Archives at the Hoover Institution. As such, he is collecting materials from Hong Kong and Macao as well as preparing historical dictionaries of Hong Kong and Macao. A former member of the Department of History at the University of Hong Kong, where he was twice voted “best teacher” by the Students’ Union, he is the author or editor of ten books, including Crisis and Transformation in China’s Hong Kong (2002), The Challenge of Hong Kong’s Reintegration with China (1997), and Precarious Balance: Hong Kong between China and Britain: 1842–1992 (1994).
