| Page from diary written by Trubetskoi in Kiev and Ekaterinodar, 1918-1919 (dela 70). |
Description
Grigorii Nikolaevich Trubetskoi--a prominent Russian diplomat, foreign policy analyst, and head of the Near Eastern affairs department in the Russian foreign ministry before World War I--was appointed special emissary to Serbia, the epicenter of the war's outbreak, in June 1914. He continued his diplomatic career throughout the war, the ensuing provisional government, and the White movement that followed. Subsequent to emigrating and settling in
Paris, he began focusing on the politics of church reform, serving as a delegate to the All-Russian Council of the Orthodox Church.
Trubetskoi's papers--an important source of information on the origins of World War I, religious politics, and Russian foreign affairs in the early twentieth century--include documents from his diplomatic work, sections of his autobiography, and his correspondence with officials and colleagues interested in religious matters and with émigré politicians and philosophers.
The finding aid for the Trubetskoi papers, which was prepared by Eric Lohr, assistant professor of history at
American
University, serves as a guide to the collection and contains links to the digitized documents, which are available on the Internet in PDF format. The guide is available on the Online Archive of California.
