Hoover fellow and executive vice president of the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation Mike Petrilli recently published The Diverse Schools Dilemma: A Parent's Guide to Socioeconomically Mixed Public Schools. The book discusses the journey Petrilli and his wife took when picking a school for their two sons. Like many Washington parents, the Petrillis wanted a school with children from mixed racial and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as one with good test scores.

According to Jay Mathews, an education columnist and blogger for the Washington Post, “[The book] is deep, up to date, blessedly short (119 pages), and wonderfully personal. [Petrilli] shares all the frustrations and embarrassments he and his wife suffered while looking for schools for their two young sons.”
