Hoover Cohosts the Symposium “Current Status and Future Outlook: Archives Institutes and Leadership of Modern China” in Shanghai

The symposium “Current Status and Future Outlook: Archives Institutes and Leadership of Modern China,” cosponsored by the Hoover Institution Archives, the Shanghai City Government, and the Fudan University, was held in Shanghai, China, during November 30 and December 1, 2012. The event was attended by representatives from leading libraries and archives around the world, including the British National Archives, the Russian State Archive for Social and Political History, the Academia Historica of Taiwan, the Second Historical Archives of China, the Japanese Foreign Ministry Archives and Defense Ministry Archives, the National Diet Library of Japan, and many other outstanding university libraries from the United States, Britain, Australia, Japan, and China. David Brady, acting director of the Hoover Library and Archives, delivered a keynote speech detailing the history of the Hoover Institution, its collecting philosophy, and the research projects that have been based on Hoover’s historical treasures. Hsiao-ting Lin, a Hoover research fellow and cocurator of the East Asian Collection, showcased some of the Hoover Archives’ unique collections, with an emphasis on its political posters and video collections. Tai-chun Kuo, also a Hoover research fellow, chaired a session of the symposium. The digitization of the T.V. Soong Papers, a newly launched project of Hoover and Fudan, was also announced at the event.
