Hiring: Exhibit Gallery Attendant

The Hoover Institution Library & Archives seeks a reliable and enthusiastic Exhibit Gallery Attendant to oversee its exhibition galleries in the Hoover Tower and ensure a positive and welcoming experience for patrons to its exhibition gallery. The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills and will be comfortable working with people of all ages and backgrounds.

Hours: Flexible, 2-3 days per week; 10am-4pm. Optional 3-4 hour shifts
Starting Date: September/October 2019
Hourly Wage: $20.00/hr

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet patrons as they enter and exit the gallery; assist patrons with orientation to the exhibit gallery
  • Monitor collections and displays, ensuring the provision of security in the gallery; maintain a clean and neat gallery appearance by regularly dusting exhibit cases
  • Maintain interactives and provide patron assistance with them as needed
  • Provide brief tours of the exhibition during open hours and for Hoover special events
  • Answer patron questions in an informed and courteous manner
  • Track attendance in exhibition galleries
  • Support the exhibition department by assisting with researching collections, updating exhibit databases, and assisting with exhibition publicity via social media
  • Additional responsibilities may include: supporting other public service points, data entry; and other duties as assigned

All training provided

Required Qualifications:

  • Prior front desk experience and/or experience working in a museum, library, or archival setting
  • Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team as well as independently Responsible, organized, punctual, conscientious, detail-oriented, and committed to the care of historical documents
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, act with initiative, good judgment, and use problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of and/or interest in 20th and 21st century history and current events
Experience with data entry
Reading and speaking knowledge of a non-English language, preferably Chinese, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, Japanese, or German
