As 2013 comes to a close, we look back at a busy year at the Hoover Institution. A small sample of the many noteworthy Hoover activities appears below.

As our nation confronts challenges that yield widely divergent views about the best path forward, our leaders all too often resort to political debate rather than engage in thoughtful policy dialogue. Hoover’s fellows look beyond politics, instead focusing on the policies and values that lie at the core of our nation’s identity.

In 2013 Americans faced a broad array of issues at home and abroad. Perennials such as the listless economic recovery and turmoil in the Middle East remained in the forefront, to be joined by congressional dysfunction and the troubled launch of the Affordable Care Act among other issues. Throughout it all, in publications across the country, Hoover fellows offered a unique brand of thoughtful and scholarly insight. A selection of those pieces follows.

LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES: YEAR IN REVIEW

The Hoover Institution Library and Archives are the world’s largest private organization dedicated to documenting war, revolution, and peace in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. With more than 6,000 archival collections from 171 countries, the breadth and depth of Hoover’s holdings are unmatched. This year was the busiest since our founding in 1919, with more than 11,000 visitors to the Library and Archives.
