As recently announced in Change: The Magazine of Higher Learning, the inventory for the American Association for Higher Education (AAHE) records is now available online. The collection consists of the association's conference materials, publications, project files, correspondence, and meeting minutes, all relating to higher education in the United States.

The AAHE's roots can be traced back to 1870, when it was known as the Department of Higher Education of the National Education Association. From its incorporation as an independent association in 1969 to its dissolution in 2005, the AAHE was involved in a number of successful events and projects, all of which are well documented in the records.

Despite occasional financial hardships, the association hosted several conferences each year, including the Conference on Higher Education, the Assessment Forum, the Forum on Faculty Roles and Rewards, and the Conference on School/College Collaboration.  These gatherings, along with special grant-funded projects, provided the members of AAHE the opportunity to engage in broad conversations on topics including faculty tenure, K-12 partnerships, service learning, the challenges of diverse student populations, and the role of new technologies in teaching. These themes were also covered in AAHE's many publications, including the long-running Change: The Magazine for Higher Learning, which continues today, though under different leadership. The collection includes other AAHE publications, including the AAHE Bulletin, College and University Bulletin, and Current Issues in Higher Education

Other collections at the Hoover Institution Archives concerning education in the United States include the Academy for Educational Development records, American Council of Education records, R. Freeman Butts papers, Paul Robert Hanna papers, and United States National Student Association International Commission records.
