Peaceful Easy Feeling After Crossing the Border

by David R. Hendersonvia EconLog
Monday, August 9, 2021

I wrote two posts on border crossings recently. The first was on my time-intensive crossing into Canada last month. On that basis, I predicted that when the Canadian government opened the border to Americans on August 9 (today), the result would be a mess. That prediction, by the way, has already been borne out by an 8-hour-long wait of cars and trucks trying to cross from International Falls, Minnesota to Fort Frances, Ontario.

The technology controlling United States nuclear weapons predates the Internet. Updating the technology for the digital era is necessary, but it comes with the risk that anything digital can be hacked. Moreover, using new systems for both nuclear and non-nuclear operations will lead to levels of nuclear risk hardly imagined before. This book is the first to confront these risks comprehensively. With Cyber Threats and Nuclear Weapons, Herbert Lin provides a clear-eyed breakdown of the cyber risks to the U.S. nuclear enterprise.
