The Last King Of America: The Misunderstood Reign Of George III

The verdict of history has been grossly unfair to George III, the reigning king of England during Americas War of Independence, argued Andrew Roberts, renowned British historian and Roger and Martha Mertz Visiting Fellow, during a lecture in the Hoover Institutions Hauck Auditorium on Tuesday, December 1.

In his latest book, The Last King of America: The Misunderstood Reign of George III, Roberts prompts readers to reassess the legacy of Great Britains longest-serving king. Here is a recap of the discussion with Roberts which was hosted by Senior Fellow, Victor Davis Hanson, and the Hoover Institution's Working Group on the Role of Military History in Contemporary Conflict.

Hoover Archives Acquires Significant Additions To The Eugene Levitsky Papers

In 1974 Hoover Archives acquired a brief autobiographical writing, composed by Eugene Levitsky, a Russian military officer, concerning a Russian civil war battle. This March the Archives was able to supplement that writing with additional writings, printed matter, and photographs related to Russian military operations during World War I and to the Russian Revolution to give it greater context and hence increase its value for researchers.

On March 2nd at the Flanders House in New York City, the American Field Service (AFS) Intercultural Program launched The Volunteers: Americans Join World War I, 1914-1919, a free, online curriculum for teaching World War I history in secondary school classrooms worldwide. The new online resource includes images from the Hoover Library & Archives Committee for Relief in Belgium collection. At the opening event Margaret Hoover, the great-granddaughter of Library & Archives founder Herbert Hoover, discussed the humanitarian efforts of her great-grandfather using images from Hoover Archives.
