The Hoover Institution is pleased to announce that Michael Franc, former policy director and counsel to House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, is the new director of Washington, DC, programs for the Hoover Institution. Franc, who will also serve as a research fellow, will oversee the Hoover’s Washington, DC, research and outreach initiatives to promote ideas and scholarship in our nation’s capital.

Thomas W. Gilligan, dean of the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, will be the next director of the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace at Stanford University, Stanford President John Hennessy announced.

The Hoover Institution announced today the release of Senior Fellow Shelby Steele’s latest book, Shame: How America’s Past Sins Polarized Our Country, on race in America. 

The Hoover Archives recently acquired the papers of Ernest M. “Allie” Allison (1894–1976), an American aviator who helped advance China’s burgeoning aviation industry when that country faced a Japanese invasion and struggled with internal turmoil. Much of the collection documents Allison's years in China (intermittently between 1929 and 1949) when he served as chief pilot, operations manager, and vice-president-elect of the China National Aviation Corporation (CNAC) and an adviser to the Aeronautical Commission.
