Parents Beware Of The New Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Fad

quoting Chester E. Finn Jr.via Coronado Eagle & Journal
Thursday, December 2, 2021

First, there was the debate about Critical Race Theory (CRT) and whether or not CRT existed in schools. As CRT was exposed to have negative baggage associated with it, educators pushing it avoided CRT and in favor of saying “equity is good,” let us try to market and sell equity. Now Coronado Unified School District (CUSD) has succumbed to yet another non-academic fad called Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Parents are just waking up to SEL.

Midterm Backlash Will Hurt Democrats But Could Help Biden

quoting Morris P. Fiorinavia The Washington Post
Tuesday, November 23, 2021

The specter of midterm election doom has haunted the Biden administration throughout its first year in office. In general, the party that wins the presidency tends to lose seats in the next congressional election. No one has to remind President Biden of this prospect, given that he was vice president when the Democrats took their very memorable midterm “shellacking” in 2010 — losing 63 House seats (and control of that chamber) and six Senate seats (retaining a narrow majority).

The Responsiveness Of Medicaid Spending To The Federal Subsidy

by M. Kate Bundorf, Daniel P. Kesslervia National Bureau of Economic Research

Although economic theory suggests that the federal government can influence spending by states through subsidies to programs that states operate, no recent work has quantified the magnitude of this effect for Medicaid, the largest program of this type in the U.S. We find that Medicaid spending per enrollee responds to the magnitude of the federal subsidy.

Monetary And Inflationary Traps

Having adopted a more flexible policy framework in response to the low-inflation conditions that preceded the COVID-19 crisis, the US Federal Reserve now finds itself confronting an entirely different economic regime. The balance of forces is thus weighing heavily against decisive action to control today’s price increases.
