Thomas Sowell: The Anti-Utopian

featuring Thomas Sowellvia National Review
Thursday, September 16, 2021

In the world of progressive politics, the most visceral displays of rancor and belligerence are often reserved not for the traditional opponents of progressives, who originate outside the political Left, but for apostates from their own ranks. The bitter internecine feuds among socialist intellectuals have long exemplified this pattern, but nowhere is the disdain for political heretics more palpable than in matters of racial and ethnic identity.

The Corrupt University And 9/11

by Bruce Thorntonvia FrontPage Mag.com
Thursday, September 16, 2021

In the Nineties I wrote frequently about the role of multiculturalism, leftist politics, and postmodern theory in the degradation of the humanities and social sciences. It was clear to many of us tracking these developments that since the Seventies, foundational skills and knowledge had been slowly eroded, their place taken by politics and dubious theory. Back then, the danger seemed confined to the elite groves of postgraduate education.

Blinding Ourselves To America’s Achievement Woes

by Chester E. Finn Jr.via Flypaper (Fordham Education Blog)
Thursday, September 16, 2021

Much as happened after A Nation at Risk, the U.S. finds itself facing a bleak education fate, even as many deny the problem. Back then, however, the denials came mostly from the education establishment, while governors, business leaders, and even U.S. presidents seized the problem and launched the modern era of achievement-driven, results-based education reform. There was a big divide between what educators wanted to think about their schools—all’s well but send more money—and what community, state, and national leaders were prepared to do to rectify their failings.
