The papers of economist, financial adviser, policy analyst, speechwriter, and ambassador Charles F. Darlington are now available at Hoover Archives. From the League of Nations to the United Nations, Saudi Arabian oil industry to the U.S. State Department, and presidents from Herbert Hoover to J.F.K., the Charles F. Darlington papers illustrate the life of an economist-turned-ambassador, businessman-turned-public servant, and Republican-turned-Democrat with a knack for observation and a quiet but sharp sense of humor.

The original copy of the most celebrated Polish letter of the 1980s has surfaced in the Hoover Institution Archives.  This three-sentence note by the Polish Solidarity trade union leader and the 1983 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Lech Wałęsa, was written from his internment to Poland’s communist prime minister, General Wojciech Jaruzelski. The letter was found in the miscellaneous papers of Poland’s last communist minister of the interior, general Czesław Kiszczak, which were received by Hoover in May of this year from the family of the minister, who died in November 2015.

Kenneth E. Scott, a senior research fellow at the Hoover Institution and the Ralph M. Parsons Professor of Law and Business Emeritus at Stanford University Law School, died on Sunday, June 19, 2016.

This month, Hoover Library & Archives announce the launch of a database that will allow users access to Hoover’s Afghan Partisan Serials (APS) collection, one of the most significant collections of Afghan periodicals in the world. The APS, a major contribution to the preservation of Middle Eastern history, consists of a careful selection of more than four thousand individual issues of twenty-nine newspapers and journals published in Dari, Pushto, Arabic, and English.
