    On Friday, March 15, 2013, Edward Lazear, the Morris Arnold and Nona Jean Cox Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution and the Jack Steele Parker Professor of Human Resources, Management and Economics at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business, received a conferment as an honorary doctor from the Copenhagen Business School (CBS) in Copenhagen, Denmark. Lazear then gave a talk titled An Economist’s Approach to Leadership at the school’s annual celebration.

Fouad Ajami, senior fellow at the Hoover Institution and the cochair of the Herbert and Jane Dwight Working Group on Islamism and the International Order, and Charles Hill, research fellow at the Hoover Institution, gave a talk titled “A Year of Living Dangerously: The Arab Awakening, the American Retreat, and the Dangers for World Order Beyond.”

    Hoover Institution Press today released Observations on the Financial Crisis, an essay in which Keith Hennessey and Edward Lazear draw on their experiences in the Bush White House to offer nineteen observations key to understanding the current financial crisis. Hennessey and Lazear highlight a number of generally overlooked points and correct popular misinterpretations of policy decisions made during the last year of the Bush administration and the first few months of the of the Obama administration.

    The Hoover Institution Spring 2012 Retreat began on Sunday, April 22, 2012, with before-dinner remarks by John Stossel, a commentator on the Fox Business Network, where he hosts Stossel, a weekly program highlighting current consumer issues from a libertarian viewpoint. Before joining Fox, he coanchored ABC’s prime-time news magazine show 20/20. He discussed his new book No, They Can’t: Why Government Fails—but Individuals Succeed, which depicts Stossel’s ideas of “what we’re imprinted to believe and what reality has taught [him].” Stossel, in talking about how people are unsatisfied with the government today and how the free market system works better for our society, stressed how “central planning appeals to people” and how we are “programmed to follow the central planner.”
