As part of his visit to the Stanford campus, former president of Taiwan Ma Ying-jeou (second from left) visited the Hoover Institution Library and Archives on April 11, 2018, where he was shown items related to the history of modern China and Taiwan. Among the historical treasures Dr. Hsiao-ting Lin, Curator of the Modern China Collection (left), showcased included Sun Yat-sen's personal writings, The Flying Tigers materials, photos of Taiwan during the Japanese colonial rule and the Japanese bombing of Shanghai in the 1930s, and the personal diaries of Chiang Kai-shek. Mr. Ma, an enthusiast of modern Chinese history, was deeply impressed. "My eyes wide open with a lot of harvest; Hoover's archival holdings are unparalleled in the globe" is what he inscribed in the VIP signature album.
