Building an Informed Policy Community

The Hoover Institution continues to serve as a place for scholars, political leaders, and many others to generate ideas that advance freedom. Also, Hoover expanded its footprint with a new site in our nation’s capital.

Learn about our Summer Policy Boot Camp

Besides teaching more than 100 courses throughout the year at Stanford, Hoover’s fellows have cultivated a number of other meaningful connections with America’s next generation. Students can work for the Institution directly via the Hoover Student Fellowship Program, and pupils from around the world attend the annual Hoover Institution Summer Policy Boot Camp. A number of Hoover fellows also teach courses offered to undergraduates as part of the ongoing Stanford Civics Initiative. This year saw students compete in an essay and content competition to honor the 95th birthday of Senior Fellow Emeritus Thomas Sowell.

Hosting the World’s Leaders, Business Titans

Throughout its history, the Hoover Institution has hosted leaders of global significance and 2024–25 proved to be no exception. Guests of honor this year included NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, World Bank CEO Ajay Banga, and former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko.

Huang spoke to Director Rice about challenges facing the semiconductor industry as well as the promise of continued growth of generative AI capacity. He urged the audience to embrace the potential that generative AI could bring by using it in their daily lives.

Securing a New Home for Hoover in Washington, DC

Late in 2024, the Hoover Institution purchased a historic building to house its Washington, DC, operations. Located just four blocks north of the White House, the limestone-clad building, more than a century old, will offer Hoover’s Media and Government Relations team more space to liaise with policymakers, convene timely events, and allow Hoover fellows and their support staff space to conduct research. After renovations, it is expected to open in 2027.

Watch Jeff Jones, Hoover's associate director of facilities, operations, events, and IT, speak about expansions to the Institution's footprint in Washington, DC, and Dallas, Texas.

The Hoover Institution hosts conferences and events across the country for our major donors and to introduce new individuals to our mission and our fellows. Beyond our major events such as the Fall Retreat and Vertex Forum, we hosted 46 regional in-person events and continued to host the popular Hoover Insider Policy Briefing Series, a private webinar series allowing Hoover scholars to discuss important policy issues with our major donors in an interactive environment.

Hoover Institution Director Condoleezza Rice is seen at the Vertex Forum event in Scottsdale, Arizona, on April 25, 2025.
