The Hoover Archives recently acquired a large manuscript collection that had been stored in a barn on the East Coast, where it was exposed to extreme temperatures and possibly rodents, insects, and other biological agents. To avoid introducing such organisms into Hoover’s stacks, the collection was frozen to eliminate them. Before they could be frozen, however, the papers required some preparation, which members of the archives staff performed outside the building on a rain-free day in December.

A Revolutionary Idea: Hoover Making History since 1919

In celebration of the Hoover Institution’s ninetieth anniversary, this exhibition of photographs, posters, memorabilia, audiovisual materials, documents, and books from its library and archives traces the Institution’s development from its origin in 1919 as a special collection at Stanford’s main library to the influential public policy and research institution that it is today.
