Sun Yat-sen, undated Joshua B. Powers collection, Hoover Institution Archives 孫中山像

The China, Hong Kong, and Macao postal services have announced the release of a new set of commemorative stamps that celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925), the first president of the Republic of China. The stamps feature images from Hoover’s Joshua Powers collection. The collection includes materials related to Homer Lea, a former Stanford student who became a military adviser to Sun Yat-sen. The postal services' new stamps will feature a photograph Dr. Sun and his son Sun Fo in Hawaii, and also a portrait of Dr. Sun taken in San Francisco in 1911 that was published on the front page of a special supplement to Shanghai's Min Li Pao on December 30th, 1911. The stamps can currently be purchased through the China Post-Hong Kong Post-Macao Post website.
