The Hoover Institution Economic Policy Working Group brings together researchers and other experts on economic and financial policy to discuss new research, study key developments in the U.S. and global economies, examine their interactions, and develop policy recommendations.

The group discusses a wide range of issues including domestic and international macroeconomics, finance, trade, public finance, labor economics, immigration, education, health, technology, industrial organization, economic development, political economy, geoeconomics, and economic history.  The group welcomes discussion of multidisciplinary topics, across areas such as national security, political science, law and economics, and history.

America’s commitment to liberty and free market principles has led to 250 years of unparalleled economic prosperity, raising the living standards of its citizens and the world.  However, the U.S. now faces challenges such as fiscal profligacy, inflation, poor educational achievement, inequality, geopolitical tensions, and rising voices advocating the replacement of free market principles with socialist principles.  How we react to these forces—and in particular whether proven policy principles prevail going forward—will determine whether strong economic growth continues to spread and improve more people’s lives or whether the economy stalls and stagnates.

Our Working Group organizes seminars and conferences, prepares policy papers and other publications, and serves as a resource for policymakers and interested members of the public.
