The Hoover Institution National Security Task Force hosted a roundtable discussion with Vice Admiral Michael F. McAllister, U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Area Commander, and USCG Pacific regional flag officers

Participants in the National Security Task Force met with Vice Admiral Mcallister and U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Area district command leadership in a roundtable focused on the Coast Guard’s unique role in engaging great power gray zone competition across the Indo-Pacific. Discussion centered on first, the status of such competition in the region and options to counter it given Coast Guard authorities—considering, for example, ports, cyber defense, economic leverage, and information operations. Second, roundtable participants considered opportunities for and barriers to further operationalizing partnerships across the Pacific, including through multilateral regional fora, the Quad, and strengthened bilateral relationships.
