Hoover senior fellow Timothy Garton Ash, author of The Magic Lantern: The Revolution of ’89 Witnessed in Warsaw, Budapest, Berlin, and Prague, was part of a forum chaired by Hoover senior fellow Norman Naimark. The forum discussed whether the velvet revolutions of 1989 established a new model of nonviolent revolution, supplanting the violent model of 1789.
