About the Issue
This week’s issue highlights the growing threat of aggression by the Chinese Communist Party against Taiwan. Xi Jinping appears intent on annexing Taiwan during his rule which could spark a wider conflict as the United States, Japan and other countries signal their support for Taiwan’s democracy. The Party’s quest to control economic behaviors and outcomes has spurred an energy crisis that continues to expose structural economic weaknesses in China. In recent weeks, coal prices have skyrocketed, factory work has been disrupted, and citizens across the country have lost access to power. Lastly, the French Government’s strategic research institute, IRSEM, released a report on how the Chinese Party-State employs political interference to undermine other countries.
