Hoover@100: Ideas Defining A Century

In celebration of its centennial, the Hoover Institution opens the exhibition Hoover@100: Ideas Defining A Century in Hoover Tower on October 10, 2019. Founded in 1919 by Herbert Hoover, the Hoover Institution started as a special collections library devoted to the acquisition and study of documents related to the First World War.

Debates over immigration and citizenship have been part of the American landscape from the start. Citizenship and its most important component— voting rights—have been the most frequent topic of constitutional amendments over the years. Panelists will discuss what it means to be a citizen and what it means to be an American.

It gives new dimensions to the old challenge of governing over diversity. Participants examine the rapid spread of information and means of communicating and suggest responses to the governance challenges posed by social media, fake news, and the decline of confidence in institutions.
