Commander Michael Nordeen, representing the U.S. Navy, was a National Security Affairs Fellow for the academic year 2017-­2018 at the Hoover Institution.

Commander Michael Nordeen is the former Commanding Officer of Strike Fighter Squadron TWO ONE ONE assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman. He has served multiple operational tours flying combat missions in F-­‐14 and F-­‐18 aircraft and has been awarded six air medals, one with combat valor. His staff tours include aide-­‐de-­‐camp to the Commander of United States Central Command and naval analyst on the 2013 Defense Strategic Choices and Management Review and the 2014 Quadrennial Defense Review.

Commander Nordeen is a Distinguished graduate of West Point with a degree in mechanical engineering, holds a master's degree in International Economics from Saint Petersburg State University, Russia where he previously studied as an Olmsted Scholar, and an MBA with Greatest Distinction from Vlerick Business School.

Commander Nordeen’s research interests include innovation in the defense industry and the contribution of economic strength to national defense.
