Sally Bachofer is a policy fellow at the Hoover Institution. Throughout her career, Bachofer’s work in K–12 education has prioritized establishing and expanding access to strong education options for students and their families. She has held various leadership roles in public education systems and with education-focused nonprofits.

From 2019 to 2021, Bachofer served as the vice president at Wonderful Education. Funded by Lynda and Stewart Resnick, owners of the Wonderful Company, Wonderful Education serves 55,000 students, and partners with educational leaders, colleges, and teachers across 24 school districts to improve educational opportunities and enhance the quality of life for children, families, and communities throughout California’s Central Valley.

Previously, Bachofer served as assistant commissioner of education for New York State, was senior advisor and vice president at City Year Inc., and worked with Expeditionary Learning Schools. She led two charter school networks as superintendent and interim executive director as they navigated leadership and governance transitions. She started her career in public education with the San Diego Unified School District.

Bachofer holds an AB from Bryn Mawr College and an EdM in administration, planning, and social policy from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. She is a member of the fourth class of Aspen Education Fellows, and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. She sits on the corporate governing board of Bryn Mawr College, where she also serves as president of the college’s Alumnae Association.
