On February 28, attendees of the Hoover Institution Board of Overseers Meeting were treated to an eye-opening tour of Hoover’s Washington, DC, office, the Johnson Center.

Overlooking the US Treasury building (one block away), the Johnson Center has become a hub that supports Hoover in three broad ways: first, as a strategic platform for Hoover scholars to conduct research they could not do elsewhere; second, as a place to interact with the national government; third, as a venue for educating members of the government and cultivating a new generation of leaders.

On February 28, Hoover overseers met at the center, which is on the fifth floor at the corner of 14th Street NW and New York Avenue NW. The efficiently designed suite has modular walls for small and large lectures and plenty of offices for visiting and permanent Hoover scholars and staff.

The overseers heard lectures that included a discussion with Hoover research fellow Adam J. White, a noted expert on constitutional law, regulatory reform, and an informal adviser to the government on agency reform.

Directed by Michael Franc, a respected veteran of Washington policy making and research, the center also operates Hoover’s Stuart Family Congressional Fellowship Program.

Twice a year, as part of the program, the Hoover Institution in Washington brings congressional staffers—young leaders in the making who shape policy and often ascend to national prominence—to the Hoover Institution’s Stanford University headquarters. Away from the grind of Washington, the staffers receive intensive policy seminars and input from top Hoover fellows such as George Shultz and Condoleezza Rice. The experience can be career changing, life changing, and nation changing, since many staffers go on to high positions.

Thank you for supporting outreach activities like the Hoover Institution in Washington, and continuing to help advance ideas defining a free society.
