The rise of the Iranian threat has disrupted Israel’s defense strategy and its perceived image as a major regional power. Influenced by Cold War concepts, the strategy of containment may be the appropriate approach. This strategy should entail, first, developing the capabilities to defeat Hezbollah and Hamas and thereby bring an end to their role as Iran’s deterrent arm; and second, wearing down Iran by exploiting its overexpansion.
