The Hoover Tower cleaning process is now complete. Begun on July 18, 2011, the process included cleaning the tower facades, repairing cracks and patches in the exterior stucco, and renewing the glazing and painting of the exterior window frames. The tower was last cleaned in 1995. Please note that the observation deck of the Hoover Tower reopens Friday, October 21, 2011.

The Hoover Tower, inspired by the cathedral tower at Salamanca, Spain, was completed in 1941. It was designed by architect Arthur Brown Jr., who also designed the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House, City Hall, and Coit Tower. Most floors of the tower are library stacks; three floors contain offices. Herbert Hoover worked on the tower’s eleventh floor.
