About

Simon Xu is a visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution and a postdoctoral fellow at the Climate and Sustainability Impact Lab at Harvard Business School. He received his PhD in finance from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.

Xu’s research examines how firms’ climate-related disclosures, environmental regulatory exposure, and nonfinancial information shape capital allocation, market valuation, and corporate decision making. A central focus of his work is developing and applying artificial intelligence and large language models (LLMs) to study the broader landscape of the climate transition by constructing new metrics of firms’ climate solution products and services, highlighting the opportunities firms create in the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Xu’s research has been published in journals such as Review of Finance and Nature Communications. His work has also been featured by the HBS Institute for Business in Global Society, HBS Working Knowledge, and the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance.
