Commander K.R. Reinhold, representing the U.S. Coast Guard, is a National Security Affairs Fellow at the Hoover Institution. As an MH-65E Dolphin helicopter pilot, he has conducted search-and-rescue, counternarcotics, and airspace intercept operations across the Western Hemisphere throughout his 21-year career.

Commander Reinhold recently served as the Chief of Operations of Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) in Jacksonville, Florida. His other operational assignments include tours in Puerto Rico, South Florida, and New Jersey. He has accrued nearly 3,000 hours as a military aviator and carries commercial pilot licenses in both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. In staff roles, he served as Press Assistant to the 26th Commandant and the Coast Guard’s Deputy Liaison to the U.S. House of Representatives.

A native of Arizona, Commander Reinhold graduated from the University of Arizona with dual bachelor’s degrees in Ecology and Spanish. He earned a Master of Public Policy from Princeton University in 2015.
