Gary Vine

Biography: 

Gary Vine is a nuclear energy consultant working with Longenecker & Associates on a wide range of projects, primarily for the U.S. DOE. Previously he served in various positions at the Electric Power Research Institute from 1981-2008, including Program Manager, ALWR Program, and Executive Director of Federal and Industry Activities. Gary holds a bachelor of science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and a masters from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School.

The US Small Modular Reactor (SMR) effort is at a critical juncture. SMRs offer a new approach to a familiar energy technology, one with significant environmental, energy security, and international strategic advantages. Despite industry support and a successful start to government licensing programs, a number of interrelated economic challenges remain.
