The Middle East is in a constant state of conflict and crisis and, naturally enough, this drives thinking regarding nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction. Chapters 7 and 8 discuss nuclear deterrence and related issues from the expert perspectives of an Israeli and an Egyptian. In Chapter 9, a Canadian scholar-diplomat suggests modest steps that could lead to a nuclear free zone in the region.
