Stacy Bare is a veteran fellow for the academic year 2025-26 at the Hoover Institution.

Bare is a National Geographic Adventurer of the Year and a pioneer in promoting time outdoors as health care. A former brand ambassador for The North Face, he has first ascents and descents in climbing and skiing in Angola, Iraq, and Afghanistan with additional expeditions to Kyrgyzstan, Botswana, and Japan. He has written for several outdoor publications, won several awards for film projects, and played rugby for Frankfurt (Germany) Sport Club 1880. He is currently the executive director of Friends of Grand Rapids Parks. His work focuses on increasing access to parks, trees, and trails for all. He is a US Army veteran with deployments to Bosnia and Iraq. He received his commission, as well as a BA in philosophy from the University of Mississippi. He also holds a masters in city planning from the University of Pennsylvania and served as a mayoral fellow for the City of Chicago. He conducted land mine clearance in Angola and the Republic of Georgia.
