The Hoover Institution Library & Archives Summer Workshop on “Authoritarianism” will be held at Stanford University from August 14–25, 2023. The workshop is intended primarily for doctoral candidates who have not completed their dissertations, junior professors, and postdocs who want to work in the Hoover archives on Russia, China, Iran, Iraq, Cuba, and other authoritarian societies and movements. All expenses are paid. There are daily lunchtime seminars for the presentation of the participants’ work. Applications will be evaluated on the merit of the projects and the relevance of specific Hoover archives collections to the candidate's proposal.

Please contact the workshops' organizers, Paul Gregory or Norman Naimark if you have any questions about the workshop's content and goals. Questions* about logistics can be addressed to Lea Limgenco. More information about the workshop and a short application form is available on the Library & Archives’ Authoritarianism and Democratic Breakdown workshop webpage.

The deadline to apply is by May 10, 2023.

*Note: Candidates can have their letter of recommendation sent directly to Lea Limgenco.
