Hoover Institution (Stanford, CA) — Eric Wakin, deputy director of the Hoover Institution and the Everett and Jane Hauck Director of its Library and Archives, and Hsiao-ting Lin, curator of modern China and Taiwan, visited Taiwan during the week of October 5, 2026, to strengthen institutional partnerships and promote scholarly collaboration.
During the visit, Wakin signed two memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with Academia Historica, Taiwan's national historical institution, and the Institute of Modern History at Academia Sinica, Taiwan's premier national research academy. The agreements aim to foster closer institutional connections, facilitate scholarly and archival exchanges, and encourage new perspectives on historical research and public policy issues of mutual interest to Taiwan and the United States.
Wakin also delivered lectures at both institutions, highlighting the history, current initiatives, and future directions of the Hoover Institution Library & Archives. His presentations emphasized the Institution's ongoing efforts to preserve endangered archival collections worldwide, as well as its new exhibition, Choosing Freedom. At the invitation of Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wakin and Lin also attended Taiwan's National Day celebrations on October 10, joining official delegations and distinguished guests from around the world.
