Liu family records, circa 1880–1930

This collection of early twentieth-century land deeds and contracts from the Zhejiang region of China offers a valuable glimpse into China's real estate market from the 1880s to the 1930s. The Liu family lived in Nanxun, and Liu Yong (1826–99), the family patriarch and a prestigious Qing Dynasty merchant, built his fortune on cotton, silk, salt, and real estate.

Jane Lathrop Stanford miscellaneous papers, 1895–1902

Three photograph albums of scenes in Japan, presented to Mrs. Stanford during her visit to Japan in 1902, comprise the bulk of this collection. Also included is a photocopy of an 1895 letter relating to the prospects of Stanford University and to a U.S. government lawsuit against the estate of Leland Stanford.

Gustaw Potworowski papers, 1919–43

Potworski, a Polish diplomat, served as ambassador to Sweden from 1936 to 1942. His papers, which include dispatches, letters, and printed matter, concern Polish diplomacy during World War II.

Tomasz Potworowski papers, 1942–2003

The memoirs and correspondence of this corporal in the Polish army relate to Polish military training in Great Britain and subsequent military operations in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands during World War II.

University of Hawaii collection, 1944–45

This collection of photographs, assembled by the University of Hawaii, depicts World War II campaigns in France and Germany, activities of U.S. troops, and Allied military and civilian leaders.
