On Tuesday, March 24, the Hoover Institution’s Center for Revitalizing American Institutions (RAI) cohosted the Good Congress Reception in Washington, DC. The event convened members of Congress, congressional staff, scholars, and journalists for a collaborative discussion on the future of the First Branch.
Organized in partnership with the Sunwater Institute, New America, and Legis1, the reception brought together a bipartisan community committed to strengthening Congress’s capacity and effectiveness. The program featured a presentation of data-driven insights into congressional performance in the 119th Congress and facilitated conversations among practitioners, scholars, and visionaries of institutional reform.
Brandice Canes-Wrone, director of RAI, delivered remarks highlighting the Hoover Institution’s ongoing efforts to reinvigorate the legislative process to re-empower congressional members and committees in lawmaking and to facilitate participation in a democratic, deliberate process.
The Honorable Daniel Lipinski, distinguished visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution, also offered remarks, drawing on his experience in Congress to discuss potential reforms to House rules and procedures aimed at strengthening our democracy.
The reception drew strong attendance and featured a guest appearance by Congressman William Timmons, cochair of the Fix Congress Caucus. The evening reflected a shared sense of optimism and a renewed commitment to congressional reform.
Building on this success, the event’s organizers look forward to continuing the Good Congress Reception series, with the next convening anticipated in June.
