Our Reading Room Reopens February 3, 2020!

In preparation for the construction of the Hoover Institution’s new George Shultz Fellows Building, the Library & Archives has worked over the past year on a project to relocate archival collection material housed in the Lou Henry Hoover (LHH) Building to secure offsite storage.

Hoover at 100 Exhibit image

Hoover's centennial exhibition is now open in the Hoover Tower rotunda!

Hoover@100: Ideas Defining A Century  runs through July 31, 2020. The exhibition is free and open every day, 10 am–4 pm. Closed for major holidays, Stanford home football games, and campus winter closure.

This year has been one of the busiest in L&A history, as staff members moved thousands of newspapers from the Lou Henry Hoover Building to offsite storage. Hoover's holdings have headlines from across the world and in almost every language imaginable. Here are a few fast facts from this year's move:

  • 31,996 items rehoused into 18,980 boxes

  • 18,668 boxes moved

  • 90 countries represented

  • 4,051 titles

  • Dates range from 1850 to 2013

  • Rehousing lasted from September 2018 through October 2019

  • 61 finding aids created
