This event is by invitation only.

The Center for Revitalizing American Institutions is pleased to invite you to join us for a lunch conversation with Philip K. Howard, author of Everyday Freedom, on Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. PT.

Have you ever heard a teacher complain about rules that keep them from maintaining order in a classroom? Have you ever thought that maybe university attorneys have too much control over campus? Have you ever heard a doctor or nurse complain about spending half their time filling out forms? Have you ever known an infrastructure project to get delayed? Have you ever been baffled the amount of bureaucracy present in nearly all institutions?

These are all symptoms of what Philip believes to be a system failure in America: the disempowerment of human authority needed for achievement and institutional coherence.

In addition to being an attorney and a bestselling author, Philip founded Common Good, a nonpartisan coalition dedicated to simplifying laws so that Americans can use common sense in daily choices. His latest book, Everyday Freedom (Rodin Books, 2024), pinpoints the source of powerlessness that is fraying American culture and causing public failure, and offers a bold vision of simpler governing frameworks to re-empower Americans in their daily choices.

Philip is eager to discuss solutions. He believes governing and legal structures must be replaced by simpler frameworks activated by human responsibility. He is interested in redesigning institutions by adopting a framework that sets goals, is guided by principles, and maintains a clear hierarchy of authority and accountability. He seeks to identify and launch pilot projects that, if proven successful, can be replicated in ways that allow us to abandon some of our current legal tangles.

Please join us for this event for a robust conversation about Philip’s vision.
