The United States benefits from some of the lowest energy prices in the developed world, supporting household living standards and the competitiveness of American businesses. But rising electricity demand, driven in part by AI data centers, and growing infrastructure needs are putting upward pressure on energy costs. Keeping energy affordable will require new investment in power generation, transmission, and distribution, while addressing the high cost of building in the United States. Eliminating tariffs on construction materials, reforming occupational licensing, and improving permitting and environmental review can lower barriers to investment and make it easier to expand America’s energy infrastructure.
