About

Laurel Harbridge was a National Fellow for the 2013-14 academic year.

She is an assistant professor at Northwestern University, with an appointment in the Department of Political Science. She is also a faculty fellow at the Institute for Policy Research. She received a BA with honors from the University of Colorado and an MA and PhD from Stanford University. Her work focuses on how elections, institutions, and policy are connected in the US Congress. Her recent research explores declining bipartisan cooperation in Congress, changes in party strategy, and the ramifications of these changes for the responsiveness of members to their constituents and for policy formation. In addition to a book manuscript on this topic, examining how agenda setting in the House has contributed to partisan conflict, she is working on a number of projects that connect public preferences to congressional behavior and outputs. Her recent work has appeared in the American Journal of Political Science and Public Administration Review.
