The Hoover Institution hosted "Keeping Our Republic Through Turbulent Times: from the 1960s to Today" on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 10:00am - 11:30am EST.

The Hoover Institution held a conversation with Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III, of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, on American constitutional self-government in turbulent times.

At the end of the 1787 Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Benjamin Franklin is to have said that the Framers had designed "a Republic, if you can keep it." Have we lived up to his challenge?

Judge Wilkinson's life's work has been dedicated to such questions-as a judge, and as an author.

His two most recent books - Cosmic Constitutional Theory: Why Americans Are Losing Their Inalienable Right to Self-Governance (2012); and All Falling Faiths: Reflections on the Promise and Failure of the 1960s (2017) - raise many different questions, but both are rooted in common ground: namely, questions of who we are, and how we govern ourselves.

And so it is our great pleasure to welcome him to the Hoover Institution, to discuss these books and the deeper questions that they raise.
