In “Can Democracy Reach the Poor? A Presidential Perspective on Education, Poverty, and Democracy in Latin America,” former president of Peru Alejandro Toledo, a Hoover Institution distinguished visiting fellow, and Larry Diamond, a Hoover senior fellow and coeditor of the Journal of Democracy, explored the effectiveness of political democracy.

The event was part of the Cubberly Lecture Series hosted by the School of Education at Stanford University.
