Russell A. Berman, the Walter A. Haas Professor in the Humanities at Stanford University and a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, discusses the necessity for all high school students to be fluent in a language other than English. Berman calls for “a national commitment to ramping up the quality of education.” According to Modern Language Association (MLA) executive director Rosemary Feal, Berman's remarks “have been well received by MLA members as well as by the larger academic community.
