The first weekend of October at Stanford includes a reunion, a roundtable, a forum, and the Founder’s Celebration. During Stanford’s Reunion Homecoming weekend, Hoover fellows participate in “Classes without Quizzes” in which they give lectures about their area of expertise.

Abbas Milani, research fellow and codirector of the Iran Democracy Project at the Hoover Institution as well as the Hamid and Christina Moghadam Director of Iranian Studies at Stanford University, will speak on “The Islamic Revolution in Iran and the Future of the Middle East” on Thursday, October 4, 2012. Bill Whalen, research fellow at the Hoover Institution, will talk about the upcoming election in “The 2012 Election: Seven Keys to Deciding the Presidency” on Friday, October 5, 2012. With the 2012 election fast approaching, Whalen will discuss whether Barack Obama or Mitt Romney will be the next president. As a research fellow, Whalen is a contributor to the Hoover Digest and Policy Review, which are also published by Hoover. Click here for more information about his talk.

Larry Diamond, senior fellow at the Hoover Institution and at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, will discuss revitalizing American democracy with alumni of Stanford in Government on Friday, October 5, 2012. Diamond is the founding coeditor of the Journal of Democracy and serves as senior consultant at the International Forum for Democratic Studies of the National Endowment for Democracy. Tammy Frisby, research fellow at the Hoover Institution and professor in Stanford's political science department and in the university's public policy program, will discuss “Tax Politics and Policy after the 2012 Election” on Sunday, October 7, 2012. This class will discuss several scenarios, including "Taxmageddon" (also referred to as a plunge off the "Fiscal Cliff in January 2013”) and the possibility of an overhaul of the US tax code.
