STANFORD—Nine Hoover Institution fellows were named by California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on September 17 to his new Council of Economic Advisers.
The 16-member council will serve in an advisory capacity to the governor on economic matters. Members will meet with the governor periodically to assist him in confronting the economic challenges facing the state in addition to identifying economic opportunities for California.
The council will be chaired by former secretary of state George P. Shultz, the Thomas W. and Susan B. Ford Distinguished Fellow at Hoover.
In addition to Shultz, Hoover fellows appointed to the council are
- Annelise Anderson, research fellow
- Martin Anderson, Keith and Jan Hurlbut Senior Fellow
- Gary S. Becker, Rose-Marie and J. R. Anderson Senior Fellow and Nobel laureate
- Michael J. Boskin, senior fellow
- John F. Cogan, Leonard and Shirley Ely Senior Fellow
- Milton Friedman, senior research fellow and Nobel laureate
- John B. Shoven, senior fellow
- James L. Sweeney, senior fellow.
The governor also established a Commission on Jobs and Economic Growth. Secretary Shultz will also serve as an exofficio member on that commission to facilitate coordination and communication between the two entities.
