Greek foreign minister Stavros Lambrinidis visited the Hoover Institution on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, for a roundtable discussion with members of the Working Group on Economic Policy. Minister Lambrinidis described efforts, through a series of austerity measures, to overcome the crushing debt burden facing his country and at the same time fighting recession.  The meeting was chaired by John B. Taylor, the George P. Shultz Senior Fellow in Economics at the Hoover Institution, and included a delegation of Greek foreign ministry officials as well as a cross section of Stanford and Hoover economists.

Lambrinidis is an American-educated lawyer (Amherst College BA, Yale Law School, JD) who assumed the office of minister of foreign affairs in June 2011, after having served for many years in the European Parliament, including as a vice president.
