Edward Lazear, the Morris Arnold and Nona Jean Cox Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution and chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers from 2006 to 2009, was named to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He was selected for “founding the field of personnel economics, establishing the Society of Labor Economists, extraordinary public service and dedicated mentoring of junior and female economists.” This election to fellow is an honor bestowed by the member’s peers. Lazear is believed to be the first Hoover fellow to be named to the AAAS. His research centers on employee incentives, promotions, compensation, and productivity in firms.
In October 2012, the AAAS Council elected 701 members as fellows of AAAS. All the selected fellows will be recognized for their contributions to science and technology at the Fellows Forum, which will be held on February 16, 2013 during the AAAS Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.
Founded in 1848, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, "Triple A-S," is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing science around the world by serving as an educator, leader, spokesperson, and professional association. In addition to organizing membership activities, AAAS publishes the journal Science, as well as many scientific newsletters, books, and reports, and spearheads programs that raise the bar of understanding for science worldwide.
