Hoover fellows John Taylor, Allan H. Meltzer, Russell Roberts, Michael Boskin, and Admiral Gary Roughead recently testified at various subcommittee hearings in Washington, DC.

John Taylor, the George P. Shultz Senior Fellow in Economics at the Hoover Institution and the Mary and Robert Raymond Professor of Economics at Stanford University, testified before the House Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade Committee on Financial Services on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, on the Federal Reserve’s conduct of monetary policy before, during, and after the financial crisis.

Allan H. Meltzer, a distinguished visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution and the Allan H. Meltzer University Professor of Political Economy at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University, also testified before the House Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, in a hearing titled “Near-Zero Rate, Near-Zero Effect? Is ‘Unconventional’ Monetary Policy Really Working?”

Russell Roberts, a research fellow at the Hoover Institution, testified before the Senate Budget Committee on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, in a hearing titled “Reducing the Deficit by Eliminating Wasteful Spending in the Tax Code.” “I am wildly enthusiastic about eliminating wasteful spending in the tax code. Our tax system should be more transparent, simpler, and fairer,” stated Roberts.

Michael Boskin, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution and the T. M. Friedman Professor of Economics at Stanford University, testified before the Joint Economic Committee Hearing on Thursday, February 28, 2013, about the state of the US economy. Austan Goolsbee also testified during this hearing. Boskin served as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers during the George H.W. Bush administration; Goolsbee was President Obama's first chairman on the council.

Admiral Gary Roughead, USN (ret.), an Annenberg Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution, along with former secretary of the navy John Lehman, testified before the Armed Services Committee on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, on the fundamental problems facing the navy, including funding, acquisition strategies, and the $9 billion budget deficit. “If sequestration takes place and is not amended in some way and we go into a yearlong continuing resolution,” Roughead said, “I think we will have a very, very rapid downturn.”
