Former president of Peru Alejandro Toledo, a Hoover Institution distinguished visiting fellow (on the right), and Larry Diamond, a Hoover senior fellow and coeditor of the Journal of Democracy, discussed the effectiveness of political democracy in “Can Democracy Reach the Poor? A Presidential Perspective on Education, Poverty, and Democracy in Latin America” on Tuesday, October 16. The event was held as part of the Cubberly Lecture Series hosted by the School of Education at Stanford University.
